My role

As the product designer and researcher, I guided the end-to-end modernization design of Sähkönhinta across B2B and B2C. I led discovery, defined the design direction and turned insights into intuitive, accessible interfaces. I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams, vendors and stakeholders to align decisions and deliver a modern, seamless platform for comparing and purchasing electricity packages.

Challenge

Sähköhinta is Finland’s official electricity price comparison service, but the platform was outdated, non-responsive, and difficult to use, leading to low adoption among residents. The challenge was to modernize it into a simple, trustworthy B2B and B2C platform that improves comparison for residents and streamlines publishing for vendors.


Approach

  • I led the research to understand the current Sähköhinta experience and uncover opportunities for modernization. I spoke with stakeholders, held workshops with electricity vendors, and conducted contextual inquiries with Finnish residents to explore user needs, pain points, and business goals.

    By synthesizing these insights, I identified consumers, vendors, and system administrators as the core groups and gained a clear view of the challenges in comparison, pricing, and decision-making. These findings shaped the direction and focus of the redesigned B2B and B2C platform.

  • I used the research insights to create early concepts and wireframes that explored key journeys, layout options, and overall structure of the redesigned platform. I shared these concepts with stakeholders, developers, and users to gather feedback early, understand expectations, and validate the direction before moving into detailed design

  • tested and validated both the B2B and B2C prototypes with consumers and business users. I planned and conducted eight semi-structured interviews with residents and held co-design workshops with electricity vendors to review the B2B experience. Based on the feedback, I identified key UX improvements and worked with the team to prioritize them by impact and effort.

  • I worked closely with developers and stakeholders to bring the redesigned Sähköhinta experience to life. I reviewed builds, clarified interactions, and ensured the design remained consistent, accessible, and aligned with the product vision. The modernized B2B and B2C platform launched successfully with strong adoption and positive feedback from residents, vendors, and the energy authority.
